Passages De Paris

A new kind of urbanism developed in the aftermath of the French Revolution. Aristocratic properties acquired by the State often ran between two streets. Passages and arcades were built on them, connecting the streets with clean safe pedestrian routes lined with glass shop fronts displaying a wide range of luxury goods. As we approach one of these passages, its doorway frames a long, telephoto-photo view into an internal world. Like Alice, we enter into a different world. The book describes 10 examples of such spaces.       BI-LINGUAL  ::  ENGLISH/FRENCH
